VPX (VITA 46) ist durch eine VITA (VMEbus International Trading Association) Arbeitsgruppe spezifiziert und als ANSI Standard vorgeschlagen. VPX ermöglicht eine serielle Hochgeschwindigkeits-Kommunikation über einen neuartigen Steckverbinder und eignet sich hervorragend für den Einsatz in anspruchsvollen militärischen und industriellen Anwendungen. Dabei stellt VPX wahrscheinlich den bedeutendsten Fortschritt in der 25-jährigen Geschichte des VMEbus dar.

Der OpenVPX (VITA 65) Standard, der von 28 führenden VITA Mitgliedern unterstützt wird, standardisiert Steckerbelegungen, vereinfacht Systemdesigns und ermöglicht kürzere Entwicklungszeiten. Durch OpenVPX wird der Einsatzbereich für VPX-Systeme ausgeweitet und der Konstruktionsaufwand minimiert.

Der VPX REDI (Ruggedized Enhanced Design Implementation) VITA-48 Standard enthält Designregeln für Layout und Aufbau von Conduction-Cooled VPX Karten.
