The EIU1000 is a rugged Extended Interface
Unit that combines a powerful System-onChip with a broad range of Ethernet, avionics
databus and serial channels, and discrete
I/O connections into a compact all-in-one
solution. It represents a COTS answer to
the challenge of providing low-cost, high
density interface within an integrated system
architecture where interface flexibility,
physical robustness, power, weight, and
space are critical considerations.
Powered by Xilinx’s Zynq Ultrascale+ Systemon-Chip (SoC) with quad-core ARM CPU and
FPGA, the EIU delivers a powerful and flexible
solution in a small-form-factor module. The
system includes 4 GB DDR4 memory and 128
GB onboard SSD. Approximately 50% of the
FPGA is reserved for the user.
The base EIU-1000 includes an eight (8)
power 1000BASE-T Ethernet switch, 2
channels of dual-redundant MIL-STD-1553,
4 channels of ARINC 429 (3 Rx, 1 Tx), 4
channels RS232 ports (or 2 channels FullDuplex RS422/485), 8 Avionics Discretes (4
In, 4 Out), and one USB port. Additionally,
two optional user-selectable Electrical
Conversion Module (ECM) sites allow for a
semi-custom I/O configuration including a
range of analog and digital I/O, or additional
serial of databuses to meet your exact
requirements.
Redundancy Made Easier
The compact size and flexible configuration
make the EIU ideal for systems that require
redundancy. The integrated eight port
Ethernet switch allows you to connect
multiple EIUs without additional hardware.
Flexible COTS
Whether you need a data concentrator to
simplify system wiring, or a small system
controller, the EIU blends the computing
power, modularity, and I/O connections in a
compact package not possible before.
As a COTS solution, the EIU avoids the high
development costs and schedule delays
that are common with custom system.
