The TX2FX-13 comes with an auxiliary 100 Mbit/s copper Ethernet port. This makes the TX2FX-13 to a very compact unmanaged switch with one SFP slot, one triple speed copper port, and one 10/100 MBit/s copper port. Depending on the on-board configuration switch, the auxiliary port connector can be on the same side as the SFP slot or on the opposite side.
The TX2FX-13 is the ideal solution for application where a high-bandwidth device (e.g. copper based 1GBit Ethernet camera), along with a low-bandwidth controlling/helping device (e.g. camera motion controller), needs to be connected via a long distance fiber-optic link.
To inform the user that the network is down, the TX2FX supports “link loss forwarding”, which takes the copper link down if the optical link is down or visa versa (configurable). This helps detecting broken network connections. The TX2FX-13 supports “link loss forwarding” only on the main copper port.
The latest firmware supports also copper based SFPs e.g. Avago ABCU-5730RZ or Finisar FCLF-8520-2 (other brands will work too, but have not yet been tested). This is useful if a transition from copper to fiber is planned, but not yet implemented. With the wide input voltage range and the low current consumption, the new TX2FX-13 is the ideal choice for any tough environment (temperature, shock & vibration, longevity, ...)
