10 Gigabit Ethernet steht vor der Einführung in den Automatisierungsmarkt
Ethernet hat sich über die letzten 15 Jahre zum meist verwendeten Protokolle in der Industrieautomation entwickelt. Anfangs reichten noch 10 MBit/s aus, aber bald setzte sich Fast Ethernet mit einer Bandbreite von 100 Megabit pro Sekunde (Mbit/s) durch.

Neue Anwendungen und eine zunehmende Anzahl an Netzwerkteilnehmern erfordern wiederum eine leistungsstärkere Netzwerkinfrastruktur, die mit Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) zur Verfügung steht.

Die Anbindung der Endgeräte und auch Backbone-Lösungen sind bei GbE ausgereift und in Industrie-qualität verfügbar. Für anlagenübergreifende Netzwerke, umfangreiche Videoüberwachung oder moderne, IP-basierte Entertainmentsysteme reicht aber Gigabit Ethernet nicht mehr aus.

Hier steht 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) vor der breiten Markteinführung, um den Bandbreitenbreitenbedarf aktueller Projekte abzudecken und die Tür zu neuen, innovativen Anwendungen zu öffnen.
