The ATCA-7010 is a 10 Gbps throughput capable single slot ATCA module. The modular design enables I/O and fabric interface flexibility. Additionally, it is compliant with PICMG 3.0 and PICMG 3.x standards. The module includes dual Intel® IXP28xx network processors and a powerful memory architecture to address the most challenging of packet processing applications such as traffic aggregators, intrusion detection and high bandwidth line card applications.

MODULAR ARCHITECTURE
RadiSys designed the Promentum ATCA-7010 with modularity in mind. It includes a baseboard, a fabric interface card and a rear-transition module. The baseboard hosts dual 1.4 GHz core Intel IXP28xx Network Processor Units (NPUs) and associated memory subsystems. The ATCA-7010 NPUs are interconnected through SPI-4 or CSIX interfaces. The SPI-4 switch between the NPUs enable different configurations – dual IXPs, parallel or pipelined. Such flexibility allows users to allocate the NPUs for the processing power in the right direction of the data flow. The RDRAM design uses socketed parts simplifying upgrade to higher density parts as they become available. It is currently available in 256 MB parts for a total of 768 MB memory with ECC per NPU. For demanding packet-processing applications, the ATCA-7010 has 3 banks of QDR II SRAM with up to 8 MB (max) per bank. The module incorporates an optional TCAM mezzanine module through the LA1 interface. This dual ported, 18 Mbit TCAM is visible to both NPUs, thus offering flexibility in implementing demanding “look-up” applications.

The Rear-Transition Module (RTM) connects to the baseboard over a SPI-4 interface through the Zone 3 connector. It enables the ten 1 Gigabit Ethernet I/O ports for the ATCA-7010. Multiple I/O interfaces are possible in the future by utilizing other RTMs with interfaces such as redundant 10 Gigabit Ethernet or multiple OC-48/STM-4.

FABRIC INTERFACE
The third element of the modularity of the ATCA-7010 is the PICMG 3.x fabric interface. The ATCA-7010 implements the PICMG 3.0 base interface to the XScale® core processor of the IXP28xx. The SPI-4 data path of the NPUs is brought out to a mezzanine connector through the SPI-4 switch onboard. This modular design of the ATCA-7010 allows the PICMG 3.x fabric interface to be designed as a mezzanine board. A choice of mezzanine modules will be available from RadiSys and its partners to enable star or mesh topology implementations. The first planned fabric mezzanine module is a 10 Gigabit Ethernet interface.

SOFTWARE
The ATCA-7010 comes complete with MontaVista Professional Edition 3.1 Linux operating system support. It includes RadiSys SDK with all the necessary device drivers and peripheral software needed to start development for Linux applications.

The ATCA-7010 is compatible with IXA SDK 4.x. The IXA SDK 4.x enables customers to simulate the microcode development and implement it on the hardware for further validation.

Overall, the Promentum® ATCA-7010 solution provides AdvancedTCA compliant hardware and software necessary for up to 10 Gbps packet processing capability. TEMs designing next generation equipment can leverage the Promentum family, along with this module, to accelerate their time-to-market.
